Specialist Tuition for Dyslexia and Other Specific Learning Difficulties
My tutoring approach is individualised and tailor made to ensure continued progress. Teaching is designed to be fun, stimulating and varied. It is supported in an auditory, visual and tactile way, based on the principles of multi sensory, highly structured methods of teaching. The techniques are designed to improve literacy permanently. All activities incorporate memory techniques.

Primary and Secondary Learners
I am trained in teaching learners with specific learning difficulties using multi-sensory teaching programmes. The programme chosen and the targets which are set are largely based on the findings of the Diagnostic Assessment which identifies current levels of reading, spelling, writing, phonological processing strengths and weaknesses.
These differ from school/college literacy teaching in the following ways:
GCSE and 'A' Level Learners
This would mainly focus on study skills using dyslexia friendly, multi-sensory strategies. Topics include:
University and Higher Education Learners
Those in receipt of Disabled Students' Allowance may be eligible to access 1-1 Specialist Dyslexia Tuition.
Adult Learners
Tuition is also offered to adults and is tailored to individual requirements. Previously the focus has been on teaching reading, writing, spelling and grammar and also work based literacy skills.

The programme chosen and the targets which are set are largely based on the findings of the Diagnostic Assessment which identifies current levels of reading, spelling, writing, phonological processing strengths and weaknesses.
These differ from school/college literacy teaching in the following ways:
- Each learning step is broken down into tiny increments. This builds the learner’s confidence as they do not feel overwhelmed.
- Every sound and its corresponding sequence of letters is isolated and practiced using each one of the senses so that a weaker link (e.g. verbal recognition) can be supported by a stronger one (e.g. handwriting).
- The programmes are progressive and builds on previous learning with an emphasis on over-learning to the point where sounds and letter sequences become automatic and become firmly fixed in long term memory. At every stage the work set for a learner will contain only known sounds and teaching points. This quickly builds confidence.
- Lessons are fun, activities stimulating, and the environment supportive and therefore relaxed. Different learning styles are catered for.
- Grammar, punctuation and the rules of English are incorporated in the programmes so that learners are taught how to apply each of these to any given word or sentence.
