Welcome! My name is Julie and I manage Stockport Dyslexia Service (formally known as Romiley and Stockport Dyslexia Service). I qualified as a Specialist Assessor/Teacher of Specific Learning Difficulties in 2006, a year after completing my PGCE, specialising in Adult Literacy. I am a member of PATOSS and hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate. After 4 years working as a Literacy and Numeracy Tutor, I transferred to a sixth form college where I have enjoyed 14 years in the role of a Specialist Teacher and Assessor of Dyslexia/SpLD, tutoring students with a diverse range of needs relating to Specific Learning Difficulties. Continuous training in this field is vitally important to me. so that I can be confident that my skills and knowledge remain up to date - to pass onto you! I most recently attended a conference on Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Maths which has given me so much more insight into making maths make sense to us all - useful to incorporate in my teaching and for making highly effective recommendations in my assessment reports.
Helping children and adults to achieve their full potential really motivates me. I believe that focusing on the strengths is key!
Assessing and tuition usually takes place at my home in Marple Bridge, Stockport. The environment is very informal and relaxed. It is conveniently located for travel from all surrounding areas, including Stockport, Manchester, Tameside, Trafford, East Cheshire and North-West Derbyshire. However, please do ask if you would prefer to meet in your home so that this can be arranged.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Julie
